Feb 27, 2010 - lol... he didn't sing because no one would let him... not because he was self-conscience
inatizzy2 Says:
Feb 28, 2010 - I believe Richard Manuel wrote a WHOLE lot of songs that Robbie got credit for.. The best of the BAND was Levon and R. Manuel.
virgilcaine1 Says:
Mar 1, 2010 - best band ever.
RTH615 Says:
Mar 4, 2010 - Drop dead you commie shit
patcshea Says:
Mar 5, 2010 - the thingofitwas, j r robertson was an autuer almost ground breaking as a guitar player as he demonstrates here. he played (plucked) all those really spare notes and discarded the rest unlike most of his compatriots. i'm looking at you alvin lee. he should have let it go at that.
ElectricCandleLight Says:
Mar 10, 2010 - patcshea That is a very good comment. His tone is nothing that i have heard before. It seems to be just his guitar plugged into the amp which is overdriven and creating just a beautiful tone. I cant believe this video.

Mar 11, 2010 - The others, Rick in particular, did in fact push for Robbie to sing more but he had the good sense to decline. He's on record as declining because (contrary to what The Band was all about) it would have upset the balance, if he was just one more guitarist-lyricist who also sang. And with 3 top-rate vocalists in the group, another lesser voice wasn't all that important anyway. BTW, "Out of the Blue" was intended to be Richard's lead vocal but he didn't show, so Robbie sang it by default.
RockHistoryTube Says:
Mar 14, 2010 - Great tune! 5 stars

Mar 15, 2010 - God bless Richard, he was a troubled man.. So talented though.
deBierce01 Says:
Mar 16, 2010 - @ElectricCandleLight The amp is actually very clean. Robby is well known for his use of pinch harmonics. He was an innovator.
xenta Says:
Mar 17, 2010 - Robbie got his pinch harmonic thing from his teacher, Roy Buchanan.
DrNanook Says:
Mar 18, 2010 - Don't agree... think the album's version is more concise in expressing the 'hurt' of the farmer.
roomserviceband Says:
Mar 18, 2010 - is that eric clapton at 2:39??
IGY5758 Says:
Mar 18, 2010 - Looks like Rick left the funk filters on his Jazz! Didn't matter, he still played and sounded funky. Sure glad someone got this session on film....fantastic and then some!!!

Mar 19, 2010 - they were 80% CANADIAN (one americian)

Mar 20, 2010 - Levon's snare at 1.03 love it! everything about this,classic.
LOOKN450 Says:
Mar 20, 2010 - Saw these guys at the Felt Forum in NYC right after the release of the second album. Still pinchin' myself 40 years later. I didn't think Robbie could top the King Harvest solo from the studio album, but this one is just as cutting.
DonElgazo Says:
Mar 21, 2010 - C'était bien ça The Band ... Aussi dans Last Waltz il me semble ...
BiggCox Says:
Feb 22, 2010 - robertson was so self concious that he wouldnt even be plugged in (eg the last waltz) just pretending to sing live sounds harder to me really, ands pathetic
